VAT invoice generator
Make a UK VAT invoice — your VAT number, tax point and 20% VAT, or a zero-rated, exempt or reverse-charge document with its statement printed — in your browser. No sign-up, your data is stored on your device by default, download a clean PDF.

Get it right
What a full VAT invoice includes.
The generator prompts for these, applying one VAT rate across the invoice. You can also select a whole-invoice zero-rated, exempt or reverse-charge treatment — your selection, and the invoice prints the matching statement (mixed-rate line items aren't supported yet). Retail sales of £250 or less can use a simplified invoice with fewer details.
General information, not tax advice — you're responsible for issuing correct invoices. See the VAT guide or check current GOV.UK guidance.
How it works
From a blank invoice to a saved PDF.
Open the UK template
It opens headed "VAT INVOICE", with VAT No as the registration label, VAT at 20%, GBP, A4 and UK date order. No setup screen first.
Store your registration details once
Your trading name, address and VAT number are held on your device and reused, so later invoices start already filled in.
Set a tax point when it differs
There is a dedicated tax-point field for when the time of supply is not the invoice date, rather than expecting you to improvise it in a notes box.
Add lines and watch the three totals build
Enter each description, quantity and unit price excluding VAT. The total excluding VAT, the VAT itself and the total including VAT recalculate together as you type.
Switch treatment when the supply is not standard-rated
Choose Zero-rated (0%), Exempt from VAT or Reverse charge (customer accounts for VAT), and the invoice prints the matching statement built from that choice rather than wording you compose yourself.
Save the PDF, then mark it sent
The PDF is produced in the browser on your machine. Marking it sent afterwards files a dated copy for your own records.
What you get
What the generated invoice contains.
- A4 with GBP preselected
- Laid out for UK paper and email. The UK template starts in GBP and uses UK date order; the currency stays yours to change in your business profile.
- All three VAT totals
- Total excluding VAT, the VAT amount and total including VAT each printed as their own line rather than collapsed into one figure.
- Tax point shown when you set one
- If you enter a time of supply that differs from the invoice date, it prints on the document instead of being stored invisibly.
- Text you can select and copy
- Your customer can lift the invoice number, VAT number and figures straight out of the PDF, and it stays sharp at any zoom.
- Unique numbers from your own series
- By default, new invoices take the next number in your configured series. Duplicate numbers are rejected, and you can override the number when needed.
- A record of what you marked sent
- Marking an invoice sent freezes a dated copy with a SHA-256 checksum. It records what you marked sent and when — not proof of the exact file your customer received.
Your data
Where your invoices are stored.
- Held in this browser on this machine
- Invoices, customers and logos live in your browser's local database. We do not receive them.
- Nothing to sign up for
- No registration, no email address, no password. The editor is usable the moment the page loads.
- A backup file you keep
- Export your records to a file you hold yourself and restore from it whenever you like. Restores are checked before anything is overwritten.
- Google Drive backup if you want it
- Off unless you turn it on. It reaches only the backup files it created or that you hand to it, not the rest of your Drive.
- Clearing site data removes this machine's copy
- Because the records are local, clearing this site's data wipes them here. An exported or Drive backup can still be restored afterwards.
- Usable on a phone
- The editor works in a mobile browser, though the invoice itself is composed for A4 rather than a phone screen.
Limitations
What this tool does not do.
Worth knowing before you rely on it.
- It does not file anything with HMRC
- This produces a VAT invoice as a PDF. It is not Making Tax Digital software, it does not submit VAT returns, and it sends nothing to HMRC.
- It is not tax advice
- It applies the rate and treatment you pick and does the arithmetic. Whether that treatment fits the supply is your judgement — the VAT guide sets out when each one applies.
- One VAT treatment across the invoice
- A treatment covers the whole document. An invoice mixing standard-rated and zero-rated lines is not supported yet.
- You send it, not us
- The email and WhatsApp options prepare a draft in your own application for you to check and send. Nothing is transmitted on your behalf.
- No live sync between devices
- There are no shared logins or team access, and devices do not stay in step automatically — moving records between machines means carrying a backup file across.
- 20% is a starting value you control
- The standard rate is pre-filled for convenience, but the figure printed on the invoice is whatever you set it to.
